Here at Dragonfly Acres, we strive to be an open and welcoming space for all interested in learning about our animals, including the neurodiverse population. We acknowledge the developmental and sensory differences that many children and adolescents experience, and as such, we offer sensory-friendly and inclusive events for neurodiverse adults and children with adaptations and supports when possible.
What we offer:
-
Calm and inviting self-guided experience that allow for breaks as needed
-
Opportunities for safe and slow interactions with our animals
-
Open areas for movement and music, including small parent-supported explorations nooks throughout the property.
-
Quiet space away from the crowd if overstimulation occurs
-
Picnic tables for snacks (feel free to bring your own snacks, beverages, blankets, chairs for your comfort)
-
Calming sensory activities to access if breaks are needed, including but not limited to tactile sensory bins, coloring and art supplies, etc.
What we are working towards:
-
Accessibility for individuals with physical health conditions and impairments. It is operated on grass, gravel, and ground without pavement and, at times, inconsistent terrain. Please take this into consideration when choosing wheelchairs, walkers & strollers. If you are in need of special accommodations for parking, please reach out to Ms. Sharlee (text or email are best).
Follow along and stay in touch - Amazing offerings are on the horizen!
-
Story Time – join us for a morning of reading and learning about a different animal each session.
-
Touch and Feel Sessions – enjoy an opportunity for safe and slow interactions with our animals to experience the therapeutic benefits of engagement with animals.
-
Parent Meet-Up – connect with other parents of neurodiverse children under the guidance of a trained facilitator while your child enjoys crafts, story time, and play.
